Müller Mania at MunChi's
When dreams come true...
One of mine came true when Thomas Müller, former Bayern Munich player, decided to make the move to the Vancouver Whitecaps. I knew I had to get my pretzels to him somehow, so with some contacts, I was able to make him a welcome basket for his new place downtown to be dropped off on Thursday. I was over the moon happy and proud to be able to do this for him, I was literally ecstatic!
The next day, I got an email from the Whitecaps, asking me if "MunChi" would be able to do the catering for a press conference for a signing of a new player. Right away I knew who they were talking about, so I asked if it's okay to add the initials TM and #13 to the charcuterie board. They agreed quickly and I couldn't believe it!
I could not believe that I, Amelie from Garching (Munich - Germany), life-long Bayern fan get to do this for Thomas Müller's reception at the Whitecaps. That I was nervous would be the biggest understatement! The entire time prepping and setting up the buffet, my smart watch thought I am high lever exercising!
We got to set up his room too, where I left the "Lebkuchenherz", which he posted on his Instagram!
After the successful buffet service, a reporter from the BILD Zeitung asked him, what he thinks about the set up MunChi created for him... with small jokes and just being him, he answered very nicely and stated that he very much enjoyed the "Leberkassemmel"
(Bavarian Meatloaf Bun).
He then asked in the audience "Wo ist die Amelie?" (Where is Amelie) and then gave me a thank you and thumbs up and a "sehr gut"! I was on the weakest legs ever. Nerves got me and after a quick happy and joyful crying-sesh, I was asked to ask him a question...
A few times that day, he was told that Vancouver is the greatest city in the world... I said to him than him and I both you know very much exactly what actually the greatest city in the world is - Munich of course but that Vancouver is a very close second! (there is a FCB fan chant that is exactly about that) Then I continued with telling him about the German community here and that he can join us anytime he wants... my silly question was what his favorite food was, which he answered he didn't have one but again my Leberkas was VERY good!
After the press conference he came straight to me and thanked me for everything, saying how impressed he was and that it is unbelievably awesome to represent our flavors and culture the way I do here - I could not have been more proud!
This was so much more for me than a job, this was Herzenssache. This was something of a bucket list that i didn't even know I had on there!
The next day i got contacted from the stadium to sell pretzels there and at his very first game we started selling pretzels at BC Place! Another dream i had when i started making pretzels that then and there came true.
If someone had told me a couple years ago that I will make pretzels in Vancouver and because of that will meet Thomas Müller and all the other amazing people I have met along the way i would have called them absolutely crazy!
But here I am - WE ARE - together with my team making pretzels every day for people like you and me and sometimes people like TM13!
